what happen was there was no central control or command
operations center !!!

It was a total mess on the ground – you have police, different
army unit including commandos all in un-coordinated actions …. thus
by the time the commandos are on the ground – you already have
other army and police unit already charging ahead engaging …. thus
commandos therefore are force into direct actions without any
preparation … that why the commandos are not effective and seem
lost and disorganised.

slay all the pirates they encounter...In this way, the pirates will
think twice about attacking merchants..

Next, flatten their base if found..with anything..a
nuke...bombs..missiles...

The idea of Q-ships have been tried before, bad idea as other ships
responding to the emergency might think that the armed merchantman
is also a pirate ship.

Send Naval Task force to Somalia? replied by Pitot @ Wed, 03 Dec 2008 10:39:11 +0800

Warships rescue merchant vessels in Gulf of
Aden

A NATO warship has prevented a swarm of more than a dozen pirate
boats from hijacking five merchant shipping vessels in the Gulf of
Aden, the alliance said in a statement.

Alerted by a distress call, the Italian navy destroyer put itself
between the ships and a group of pirate "fast boats", with all
vessels using water hoses to repel the pirates.

The Italian warship, Luigi Durand de la Penne, also used its
helicopter against the pirates, dispersing their attack, a NATO
official said.

"This is probably the biggest multiple, coordinated attack we've
seen," the official said, adding that more than 12 pirate boats
were involved, perhaps as many as 20.

"There were so many of them, that it was more important to protect
the motor vessels than to go after these dispersing boats," the
official said, on the sidelines of talks between NATO foreign
ministers in Brussels.

"These attacks are more and more brazen," he said, adding: "The
bottom line is: this is a busy part of the world."

The vessels under threat were the Hambourg Star, flagged out of
Liberia, the Hong Kong registered Overseas Hercules, Iranian
flagged Iran Esteghlal, the
Sea Queen from Singapore, and the Alexander Sibum
flagged in Antigua and Barbuda.

NATO has four ships - from Britain, Greece, Italy and Turkey - on
patrol in the waters off Somalia, with two protecting UN food aid
convoys to the strife-torn Horn of Africa country.

The mission, NATO's first-ever against pirates, is commanded from
Naples, southern Italy. It will end in mid-December when a bigger
European Union operation - dubbed Atalanta - is to be put in
place.

Somalia's Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean waters have seen around 100
vessels attacked this year. The escalation threatens to choke one
of the world's busiest maritime routes.

Originally posted by Fatum:

oh fark, their officers are treated like gods ....

you should see how the senior officers are served by the thai
draftees ....

I was at this friendly sport meet between RTA and SAF, the RTA
draftees literally knelt down at a low table in front of the senior
officers of both sides to serve drinks ....

good food = good morale, true enough, but so if conditions are
bad, can't fight ? ... it may be simplifying things to say so, but
I think the RTA troops have more fortitude, and can take more shit
than many SAF soldiers, simply because they suffer more deprivation
than us ... we have to keep in mind that there'll easily be a
shortage of everything when shit hits the fan ..

but back to shitting in the field ...

other than it being simply not healthy to keep so much shit in
the stomach ... by the same corollary, what would you think of a
soldier who doesn't even want to take a shit without a proper
toilet ? ... do we have to add port-a-loos to our logistic train
when we punch up north ? ... what's next ? mobile showers ?

?

fortitude eh ? hmm, i guess thats why the new Mindef commercial
tries to compensate for that.

remember : our soldiers will always have, " THE STEEL WITHIN" (
can tahan no need shit for days, have the steel to hold it all
back)

seriouslly, i dont mind getting sweaty, dirty, dont change
underwear and clothes for a week outfield. but shitting is a major
nono.

hygiene issues.

plus i tihnk its more of a matter of personal preference rather
than all around SAF. i dont like to shit outfield simply because i
cant squat properly. plus i never had the habit of going to toilet
every 2 days anyway. i usually go something like twice a week.

plus outfield, eat less = shit less. drink less water = shit
less.

Call me navie or watever. Actually, i do believe mobile showers
might happen if a war really starts. A high soldier morale is an
important factor ...

Originally posted by sgstars:

eh ?

i heard the officers are treated very differently. officer got
dudes to tie up their hammock for them while in jungle, served
proper cutlery and everyhing.

In any case, US army style. good food = good morale.

oh fark, their officers are treated like gods ....

you should see how the senior officers are served by the thai
draftees ....
