Rank slide on chest has been standard for british army since...forever? It makes sense for the SAF to adopt this practice but it should be standadised across all ranks. The Orifices don't need something like this to feel specshul do they, or will this hurt their fragile hearts?
I wonder what sort of testing has been done on digital camouflage by the SAF or DSTA. I think the British Army very recently looked at digitising their camouflage but apparently, tests show their standard camouflage performed better with minor alterations to the colour.
I suspect the DSTA just googled MARPAT and then cut and paste into photoshop...
Camouflage is not as simple as putting a piece of cloth on different backgrounds then deciding which is less obvious. You have to look at the distances you want the camouflage to perform, how versatile you want it to be and more importantly, you have to look at how the camouflage performs when the wearer is moving and standing still. Otherwise, everyone will be wearing real-tree camouflage.
We know how the yanks operate. Its not always which kit is best (though they do have some of the best kit in the world because they can throw money at the problem) but also which is in fashion. The difference between the yanks and Singapore is they have tons more money to throw away than we do.
I am not convinced about digital camouflage, in case anyone is wondering...

Perhaps roll up as per normal? Unless we've got the similar side shoulder pockets..
For the US Army, the ACU is not meant to be worn with a smart. 4 style.. most simply fold up the cuff in hot weather or just drag it up.
Messy but utilitarian, then again, they're in the desert and they need to keep their skin protected.
