An update on my initial charge that was issued to me.

After numerous calls to ns.sg and "confirmation" from my ns unit, i was informed that i need not attend the charge for failure to attend RT.

However, 4-5 days before the actual charge date (which was supposed to be cancelled), i had a "feeling" that something was not right and i better call them to double confirm. True enough, when i called in to ns hotline, the lady said that the charge was still on! I said this was not possible and told her the whole story. after a check, she found out that my unit DID NOT inform cmpb/nssc(office in charge of charging).

At this point in time, i wanted to scream at her. She put up an immediate request to my unit to check again and promised they will contact me the next day.

The next day, no one called me.

The following day was saturday and this time i was really pissed off. Called in and the person said he couldnt do anything as it was saturday and asked me to call back on monday morning 8.30. i told him the "cancelled charge" is on monday 11am. He said no choice.

Finally on monday morning, with my uniform and boots ready "in case" i have to go down after all, i called in and after checking here and there, the officer confirmed that i no need to attend the charge.

I asked if i will receive any official letter, she said no. I asked how will i know if this time you guys got it correct and i wont receive another surprise? She said the conversation is recorded and i can always bring this up.

Moral of the story - it's not that i want to say ns is really cock up. But this scenario really prove to me that if you want anything done right, got to do it yourself.

So let this be a warning for anyone who thinks they are excused from IPPT/RT. ALWAYS check!

That is why, all of you should get a downgrade if you cannot pass IPPT.

I managed to get a downgrade to C9L3, so I need not do IPPT or RT for the full period.

I log in to my NS portal often to check n confirm that I do not need to do IPPT. If I need, I just book it first. But before that, I will seek the advice of my specialist if I can take IPPT or not. If cannot, then I will lodge in the report to Unit, NS HQ, CMPB and such and arrange for medical board. This must be done quickly, as IPPT/RT is now a serious chargable offence.

See? That's the problem. And you thought when your data is keyed in, it's automatically update nationwide in the ns system.

So the system then flags you out and you kena charged.

It's so easy to charge/callup nsmen. Send letter to their house. But when the problem is with their system, what can we do right.

that’s why i say… when you go CMPB to answer the charge, just ignore what they “advice” you.

Most of them will “threaten” you. Say if you appeal then later court martial, they will say the penalty is harsher.

But I am very sure you just lodge an appeal with valid evidence (maybe screen print of your excuse online), they will review and cancel your charge.

Don’t sign anything when the officer say just “acknowledge”

Exemption from IPPT

a. Permanently downgraded to PES C2 and below.
b. Have continuous valid medical exemption of 6 months or more within their IPPT year.
c. Have accumulated valid medical exemption for a total of 9 months within their IPPT year.

*An NSman seeking medical exemption from IPPT must submit his medical certificate to his NS Unit as soon as possible, or he can request for a medical review through his NS unit.

Well i'm not seeking exemption from IPPT. I took my IPPT for 2007 and failed. That's why i had to do RT for 2008. But an injury had my specialist recommend that i rest, hence the medical excuse for RT/ICT/IPPT. I informed my unit about my medical status. I can even view my excuse online at ns.sg. What i don't understand is why i have to inform multiple channels for my excuse. Do i have to call my unit, FCC, cmpb, mindef, or my MP to inform? t's ridiculous. We nsmen have day jobs don't have time to make so many calls to so many people. I'm assuming that if i inform my unit that is more than enough.

This is a point that i will bring up during the charge (if i have to attend).

If i can i will appeal, some may say just pay the $50 fine. It's not the money, it's the principle. Besides, if i just pay the $50 fine, that means i admit i was wrong and so it counts as my first offence. I did nothing wrong, why should i have an offence, right? :)

What happens when you go there.. you have to answer your charge to a 2LT (most of the time) . Tell them you want to appeal. IGNORE what the 2LT tells you, say you want to appeal (that’s provided your MC is really valid and you did all the right steps informing CMPB that you had valid excuses not to attend RT)

My 34 year old LCP friend had to answer charges to a 19-21 year old NSF 2LT, when he wants to appeal, the 2LT just told him,

“Just pay the $50 lah, don’t get all of us into more trouble. i know you are not in the wrong, but you know procedures is procedures”

Shame. This is what the SAF has degenerated into, how are they going to coordinate an airstrike if a simple issue like this cannot be processed and dealt with quickly and efficiently.

He never got back to me.

Whatever the case, when I finally reported to my unit for ICT, they correctly noted my status for the first two days as 'Medic Refresher Training at SMTI'. Finally.

Anyway, to the TS... so long as you have the official documents to back you up, just throw it in their faces and scream out loud.

we all in-pro at SMTI, three or four days later snr medic will get a phone call..

my BMT OC ran numerous SOCs with us, did a few log and rifle PT with us and also the first soldier to run across the goddamned pontoon bridge when we were being trained to do that.. in full battle order!

But come to think of it, can't recall if they fallout halfway, join the rover, and rejoin us at the end...

from what i heard, the people like my BMT OC are no more.. he trained us.. literally.. wore a red beret, showed us what the leopard crawl was like by crawling up the goddamned Botak Hill and led all the route marches..
